People from as far away as Cornwall arrived at Downham Village Hall this evening for the Historic Farm Buildings Group 2014 conference. There was a nice relaxed atmosphere as delegates were eager to study the beautiful Pendleside farms and barns over the next few days. Two members of Pendle Heritage were also there. HFBG chairman Les Hardy welcomed everyone and outlined what will be happening over the weekend. AONB project officer, Sandra Silk, then gave a wide ranging presentation on the Forests of Bowland and Pendle Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is celebrating its half century this year. So much has been achieved in recognising and conserving the natural and built heritage of the landscape. It was a great reminder of why Pendle Hill is officially designated as one of the beautiful places in the country.
We finished at 8 o’clock as it is ‘up early’ for tomorrow!
