It is often forgotten that the bridge over Pendle Water is also a listed building, like the others at Park Hill.
Barrowford Bridge is around two hundred years old and was built to connect the road from Colne to the road to Gisdburn. These medieval roads had been turnpiked and the bridge dates from that era.
The strategically situated George and Dragon P.H. offered the weary traveller of the time rest, food and drink, just like it does today. It is also listed and, like the roads, is a ‘Georgianisation’ of a much earlier structure.
