The New Malt Kiln at Higherford is one of the strangest buildings saved by Heritage Trust for the North West. It’s tall shape and very steep roof makes it look like a witches hat… quite fitting for Pendle Witch Country, perhaps!
It is called the New Malt Kiln because the old kiln is on the opposite side of the road. Both belonged to the Grimshaw family which also owned Higherford Mill and other buildings in the village.
The New Malt Kiln comprises a gabled wing and a run of impressive vaulted cellars where the building above has been demolished.
