The Museum of Lancashire, Preston hosted a “Festival of Archaeology 2015” event on Saturday 25th July. Well over 200 visitors enjoyed a day of Archaeology, with lectures entitled “Vikings, Treasure and Politics: the Historical Context of the Cuerdale Hoard” given by Dr Fiona Edmonds of Cambridge University and “The story of the Silverdale Hoard” given by Susan Ashworth. Staff were on hand to allow careful handling of selected items of the Silverdale Hoard.
Children were entertained by Viking story telling or by striking coins aided by Grunal the Moneyer.
If you had time to spare the rest of the refurbished museum which features aspects of Lancashires social, cultural and military heritage was well worth a visit.
This is a great museum. Well worth a visit. David M.
